Great programming and café but the exhibition spaces are shockingly unclean and tired
Seven Stories - The National Centre for Children's Books的点评
点评:I’ve visited Seven Stories many times over the years and have always appreciated the storytime sessions, special events and lovely café. However, I’m increasingly appalled at the state of the building itself especially the exhibition spaces, which are now in desperate need of attention.
On my latest visit, we arrived at 10am as the centre opened and the space already looked grubby and ransacked. Nothing appeared to have been tidied or cleaned from the day before fancy dress items were all over the place, many of them looking so filthy I discouraged my child from touching them. Soft furnishings (like ‘Mog’s bed’ and the chairs) felt dirty to the touch, and stained carpets, scuffed walls, dusty corners and broken signage added to the general sense of neglect.
Even small things like blunt pencils on the drawing tables and out-of-date posters in the loos suggest a lack of basic upkeep. The toilets themselves were grubby and the taps wobbly.
It’s honestly upsetting to see a venue designed to inspire children in such a state. I know Seven Stories is a charity, but cleanliness and pride in presentation shouldn’t be optional. Right now, it feels like no one is keeping on top of it.
It’s a shame, because the team clearly put care into the programming but the physical space is letting everything else down.
