点评:I don't think I've ever eaten in Sheffield before, but we are here for a friend's wedding, so we looked for somewhere interesting to eat. We found Bench in The Good Food Guide, a "Modern European" restaurant. Bench is located in the fashionable Nether Edge area of Sheffield and features a communal table down the middle of the restaurant, with individual tables around it and a very open kitchen. Really nice atmosphere, with some outdoor tables during the warm evening that we visited.
The menu is small plates of traditional and creative food, which we love. As there was 4 of us, we could try a great range of dishes. Which we did:
- Nocellara olives
- Dan's sourdough with whipped butter
- Boquerones
- York ham with Guinness ketchup & cornichon
- Panisse with ajo blanco, preserved fennel & grilled grapes
- Triple cooked potatoes with smoked cod's roe
- House stracciatella with grilled peach, aleppo pepper & basil Hand cut fazoletti with rainbow chard, butterbeans & parmesan
- Grilled beetroot with labneh, sumac & harissa
- Roasted onion stuffed with lamb merguez ragu with homemade ricotta
- Cull ewe mutton with sugarsnap peas, pancetta & pickled onions
- Tamworth pork collar steak with Rebel XO
- Neal's Yard Coolea cheese with chilli jam & sourdough crackers
- Dark chocolate cremeux with caramelised whey & hazelnuts
- Alphonso mango sorbet & Italian meringue
I really liked all the dishes, but the Pork Collar and the Mango Sorbet were stand-outs for me.
