Coniston - Walna Scar Car Park的点评
点评：So this once free to park fell walkers' car park at the top of the Walna Scar road is now a pay and display, enforced by the Lake District National Park Authority, but apparently with the proceeds being raked in by Rydal Hall Estate. Whichever way, whoever in the Authority sanctioned this should be bloody ashamed.
Some quick sums:
I counted just under 80 cars there today. Erring on the conservative side and ignoring visitor turnover through the day, and taking an average charge of midway between the two options (when in practice, the majority of fellwalkers will pay the full £8.50 as the 4hr threshold is cynically set to slightly below what a walk out on the Coniston Fells tends to take), then we've got 80 x £6.75 = £540 income for the day.
Acknowledging midweek will be quieter, let's assume that drops to half Mon-Fri, so (5 x £270) + (2 x £540) = around £2400 per week. That's nearly £125000 income per annum less a bit for electricity to the pay machines and charges to parking apps etc. And yet they can't even be arsed to carry out basic maintenance up there and fill in the horrendous potholes that we all used to accept because the parking was FOC. It's scandalous and cynical and another example of the public being taken for a ride in the National Park.
