点评：I went to the Fishbourne with my family last Sunday for a Sunday meal. There was 7 of us - two ordered chilli, two ordered sausage and mash and three ordered the Sunday roast. We were met by a waitress who was less than pleased to be working (and that’s putting it nicely) but continued with our meal regardless. The chilli was advertised as ‘spicy’ and ‘homemade’ however when it arrived it was bland, mild and lacking any sort of flavour. We could’ve understood if it was not spicy (despite what it said on the menu!) but still flavoursome but it absolutely was not. The rice was also not properly drained, resulting in the plate swimming with rice water. We left the table and quietly complained at the bar and asked if the chilli could be made spicier and the waitress took both plates away.
The plates returned less than 30 seconds later to our shock and the waitress told us ‘the chef is in a bad mood so he dumped a load of chilli flakes on top’. She definitely was not wrong! There was half a jar of chilli flakes on top of each plate - not stirred in or changed but insultingly thrown on top. The fact that the waitress had told us that the chef was in the bad mood absolutely did not help and should never have been said.
At this point, we fully sent our food back and said we would not eat it. We complained to the manager, to her credit, was fantastic. She was hugely apologetic and could not believe what she was hearing. As the other members of the party left most of their meal, she discounted our entire food and drinks - which was hugely appreciated.
We also asked to speak to the chef (Jake Gallagher), who did not end up speaking to us as we didn’t want the serving staff to have to relay a tricky message if ‘he was in a bad mood’. It is safe to say we will not be returning and certainly do not recommend The Fishbourne to anyone!
