Colleagues cancelled their reservations because of the smell

点评：I don't often leave reviews but I felt compelled to leave one for the Rodeway.
Let's start with the good.
Attached to the hotel are 2 good restaurants and a lovely cafe. The location is great, near Science North and downtown. As for the hotel, and the room itself, not so good.
This is not a 3-star hotel as advertised. It's a 2 star, at best. Contrary to what's written on Trip Advisor, breakfast is NOT included (found that out upon arrival, after asking just to make sure).
I found out, also upon check-in that the hotel didn't have hot water, and that "it's being worked on". I stayed 3 nights - the hot water never came. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told that he would be in the next morning. I went to the front desk the next morning only to be told that the manager doesn't work weekends.
Despite all the fancy settings on my fan/AC - it had only 2 working buttons/settings that worked - off, and very high.
My room had a very musky smell, that despite keeping the windows open, never went away - it's the kind of smell that comes from old, sticky and stained carpeting. I wondered about the history of this building, and how a funky smell like that can get trapped so strongly and never really go away.
The walls are paper thin, so If you like a quiet nights' sleep, hope that the rooms surrounding yours are empty - if you have neighbours, you will hear every footstep, and every nuance of every movement. The rooms are non-smoking but you'll smell smoke as guests often open their patio door and smoke at their doorway or steps from it.
You get what you pay for. If you're looking for a bed and bathroom, it's great. If you're looking for what's advertised, best to look elsewhere as there are plenty of other options to choose from that offer the same location benefits.
