点评:We planned a visit to The Purple Bakeshop based on the recommendations by fellow Filipino co-workers of my husband. We probably wouldn't have discovered this on our own as we rarely visit Square One, let alone The Food District. We stopped by here on Father's Day after our family lunch date. We easily found the store as its purple logo signage is distinctive from far away. The store looked busy, with a stream of customers placing their orders and paying at the cash register then picking up at the back.
We ordered Sago Gulaman ($10) and Fantasy Halo-Halo ($12.50) x2. We browsed while we waited. The Purple Bakeshop has quite an assortment of what could only be described as upscale products: cakes, pies, pastries, snacks, dessert and drinks. I appreciate that everything has signage. If you're unfamiliar with Filipino snacks or dessert, there's no need to ask what's this, what's in it, how much. Everything looked scrumptious but expensive.
Our order was ready in 5 mins. Self-serve at this point, get you own straws, spoons, napkins, even cardboard carry tray. My husband went back to ask for a long handle spoon (the bamboo one was too short for the cup) but he was told they don't have any. My son, on the other hand, noticed the straw provided was too short to reach the bottom of the taller sago gulaman cup.
Both sago gulaman and halo-halo were refreshing with a good ratio of ingredients. I'm not a fan of too much ube (purple yam) which is probably the wrong thing to say as this is obviously their specialty, based simply on their store name. Never paid this much for sago gulaman and halo-halo before. Definitely paid for the branding and ambience.
我们点了 Sago Gulaman(10 美元)和 Fantasy Halo-Halo(12.5 美元)两份。
