点评:I haven't eaten here in a while and now I remember why. At one time this was one of the finest restaurants in the city. Unfortunately I feel that they have been reduced to just another restaurant, content to live on their reputation without any of the exquisite and imaginative foods they used to offer. Everything was OK, mind you, but there's the problem - everything was just OK. The food was clearly prepared in advance and mixed together based on the customer's order. There was no exotic, spicy and finessed food, it was almost like something purchased at Costco as a frozen food and then thawed and served... not quite that bad but certainly not what it was years ago.
And the service - well the service was the service, but let's take a moment to discuss that, based on how I was required to pay extra for the service, because that was what I had to do; pay for the food and then pay for the service. What an enormous conceit it is to add a 15% tip for a table of three people without any option to decline to tip. A tip is just that: a way of expressing satisfaction for excellent food, or excellent service, or an especially lovely meal. But you see, when it is added without my input, and without my permission, it is no longer a tip, it is a surcharge. If the food is excellent beyond description and the service was 5 star, then perhaps I might be inclined, even anxious, to show my appreciation. But when the food is mediocre and the service is simply the act of placing the food on the table and I am required to pay 15% extra, then that is a surcharge and should be on the menu as exactly that: 15% added because we want to. But it gets worse. Not only is 15% added to the order, it is also added to the tax collected on the order! To-the-tax!! Did the tax do something for me that was worth a 15% surcharge? Of course not, and you certainly don't submit it to the Government.
So wake up India Gate. Start having a care again. Remember what got you to be such an excellent restaurant years ago. Get off your laurels. Get back to excellent food and service that makes people remember what excellent food and excellent service really are. Get back to the days when people would willingly add a gratuity (not a tip), and you won't have to sneak it onto the bill knowing full well many people will choose to leave a lesser or no tip - and that's how it's supposed to be. Remember? And for heaven's sake stop charging your surcharge on the already outrageous tax. It's bad enough we have to pay the government so much without you adding to the burden just because you want to. You're just not that special anymore.
