Gahan House Riverside的点评
点评：This is the second time I dined at the Gahan House in Fredericton, and probably my last for a while. We came in shortly after 13:00, and were seated quickly. Ordered a beer and wine, and the fish cakes as an appetizer–which tasted homemade, and I would recommend. We ordered our lunch shortly thereafter, and it took close to 35 minutes for it to arrive. I have no concerns about waiting for lunch, but the server was conspicuously absent. Our meal arrived–she had the seafood chowder and I the brown bag chicken and chips. She would recommend the chowder, I would recommend avoiding the chicken.
Above average:
Fish cakes and chowder. They seem to excel with seafood. The seasonal beer (pineapple sour) was tremendous.
Below Average:
The chicken and chips were bad. The breading was under seasoned, dark and brittle and was probably left in the oil too long–not what you want with fried chicken, and more reminiscent of that nautical themed breakfast cereal that cuts the roof of your mouth to pieces. The dipping sauce looked like honey with dried herbs mixed in, but tasted of sweet on sweet. I’d have said something to the server, but they were AWOL the entire time. I’d have bought two more beer, if someone had just asked. The place was nearly empty (four tables occupied), but the staff were preoccupied with a single guest seated at the bar. I watched two of them talk to him for nearly 30 minutes while I’m desperately wanting an iota of their time to order another drink. Alas… ‘twas not to be, and I had to stand up and ask to settle the bill with the first person I could find. With gratuity, worked out to $50 per person.
Overall… a disappointment. My first visit on Tuesday was above average, but yesterday’s experience was average (leaning poor given the total cost). If the experience is a coin flip, I’m not eager to risk $100 on a bad toss, and would probably choose another of the many options in downtown Fredericton.
