点评:Tierra del Sol was one of the highlights of our time in Oaxaca, and that’s saying something, because we ate very well throughout our trip.
When we arrived, we were welcomed and led straight to the tortillería, where we were handed freshly made tortillas topped with salsa, still warm from the comal. Eating them in front of the woman who made them was a reminder of how much intention goes into the food here.
The terrace has a stunning view. The food itself was thoughtful and creatively presented. The nopal salad came atop a salsa cleverly presented to resemble the cactus itself. The bone marrow dish was another standout, served over tomato rice.
Then there was the tres generaciones mole with turkey, it was one of the best versions of the dish we’ve ever had. Every cocktail we tried was delicious too.
What really set this meal apart, though, was how educational the experience was without ever feeling like a lecture. Throughout the evening, the staff brought out ingredients to explain the origins of certain dishes, adding context without interrupting the flow of the meal.
Tierra del Sol wasn’t just dinner, it was a cultural experience, and easily one of the best meals of our trip. Would return in a heartbeat.
