Deepa Stambha, a pillar of lamps in tribute to Shree Damodar, Vishnu

点评：Thursday 20th February we were travelling along the Margao-Ponda Highway in the direction of Margao. We spotted this unusual religious homage, a special tribute to Lord Shree Domodar, which is a name for the Hindu deity Vishnu.
It is located in the centre of a busy roundabout at the intersection of a number of roads.
The structure stands on a base six circular stone steps. It comprises of four gold coloured poles which slant towards each other. Towards the top of the poles the metal bends inwards and the four join in an apex which forms a bell like structure. Sitting on top of of the shape is a round finial with an arrowheaded top.
Hanging by a length of thick chain from the centre of the structure is a bell.
The structure is a Deepa Stambha, which translates as pillar of lamps or light pillar a unique architectural feature in Hinduism.
Along the length of each pole, there are nine small ledges each one has a small light which are illuminated.
There is a month dedicated to Damodar which is known as Karthik Month, in 2025 this will span from 7th October to the 4th November, a sacred time for Krishna devotees.
During this period devotees offer lamps to remove their sins and special prayers and offerings are made.
Nine hundred metres down the road, from the Bell, the Shree Damodar Temple is situated.
The Circle was inauguration on the 18th November 2024.
