点评:Friday 7th March we took a stroll around the Margao Municipal Garden, the official name being Praça Jorge Barreto.
The Gardens have been named in honour of
Dr George Barreto, he was one of the best-known municipal presidents of the Salcete Camara.
The Gardens were planned and built during his tenure as President during the 1940s and named in his honour after his death.
This bust is the third of four in a line from the main entrance, which honour famous Goan citizens.
Despite his position it has been impossible to find any information about the man. Was lucky to discover that the bust was in honour of him.
The bronze bust stands on an oblong dark stone plinth with a long marble slab on each side. Another oddity is that any inscriptions that may have been on the slabs, have been eroded away by the elements over time. It could be that plaques have been vandalised or any information deliberately removed, who knows.
The bust and plinth are surrounded by colourfull bushes and plants.
It would be good if other travellers could unravel the mystery and update with a review.
