A hidden gem in a busy town
The Old Courthouse Garden的点评
点评：Thursday 8th September we were in the Market Town of Axminster and we saw a small sign, in the grounds of St Mary's Church, which pointed out the direction to a public garden off Church Street.
We walked down the street and entered through a gated arched entrance in which there is an old brown door which leads into the Courthouse. Once through the archway we found ourselves in a picturesque cobbled courtyard.
There are a number of stone buildings along one side of the courtyard. These house a small arts and crafts shop, The Courthouse Makers. There is also the Art's Cafe, which was closed when we visited.
A number of benches & tables are around the courtyard, visitors are encouraged to come sit at the tables and eat their lunch or simply sit and read a book.
Unusual plaques adorn the walls of the courtyard.
A small metal bandstand stands in the gardens however it has been closed by the Council in April 2022 as it was considered unsafe and in need of repair. Just beyond the bandstand there was a lawned garden with some more benches.
It is definitely a hidden oasis in the centre of busy Town and a delight to spend some time enjoying.
