Restaurant Waldhaus的点评
点评：Staying at Waldhaus Hotel was a highlight of our visit to Switzerland this summer.
On arrival, Valerie warmly greeted our group and directed us to our rooms, regularly appearing throughout our stay to respond cheerfully to all requests. Daniela Berchtold—who, with her father, Ernest, continues to run this beautiful hotel (which has been in her family for three generations)—was a constant gracious and helpful presence during our stay, giving our group an orientation to Waldhaus and Bettmeralp, greeting each of us at every breakfast with freshly brewed herbal teas and coffee and delicious foods, and answering our questions. Daniela’s gentle touch was evident everywhere at Waldhaus as she quietly and effectively responded to our every need (even finding a replacement water bottle for me when I thought I’d lost mine). I was especially touched when she took time from her busy schedule on our last day to bid us each a kind and genuine farewell.
The Waldhaus Hotel is located just a short walk from Bettmeralp’s gondola station. The cluster of buildings forming Waldhaus is perched on a slope of wildflowers overlooking the primary road leading to the village’s small commercial area. Despite the light traffic of walkers, bicyclers, and occasional small vehicles on the road below, Waldhaus seems a world apart. The hotel’s beautifully landscaped terrace is a quiet and relaxing sanctuary for reading or dining. The view from the terrace and balconies on this side of the hotel is of glorious mountains and cloud formations on the other side of the Rhone valley and, weather permitting, the tip of the Matterhorn can be seen, far to the south.
Waldhaus was Bettmeralp’s first guesthouse, and three generations of the Berchtold family have filled its’ nooks and crannies with intriguing and often playful artifacts from different periods of its history. The sitting room is warmed by a fire on chilly summer nights and contains an antique piano, which guests can arrange to play. Stunning flower arrangements and potted plants are placed throughout the hotel and restaurant, thoughtful décor even extends to the terrace which features several outdoor sculptures and playful signs announcing food and beverages…and a small, ancient gondola situated below the herb garden stores lounge chair cushions.
Our room with its balcony and spectacular view was quiet, immaculately clean, spacious, and tastefully decorated—the bed’s firm mattresses were comfortable, the pillows and linens soft and spotless. Twice each day our room was tidied and, while we ate dinner, our beds were turned down and tiny treats were left on our pillows.
The morning breakfast buffet offered more fresh and tasty items than we could sample in a week. The chef took special note of food allergies/sensitivities, ensuring that even our delicious dinner options fit the diets of everyone in our group. Waldhaus restaurant seating was comfortable and intimate, with fresh flowers and herbs from the hotel’s gardens on each table.
What struck me most about our stay at Waldhaus was the pervasive sense of kindness and hospitality offered by every member of the staff and management. Respect for the history of this place and the obvious care for the well-being of each guest created an unforgettable atmosphere of warmth, friendliness, and beauty. I’d return in a heartbeat.
