Small Garden of Remembrance in a picturesque setting

点评：Wednesday 12th April and I visited this small Memorial Garden. It is located along the South West Coastal Path, in the section known as the Jubilee Memorial Grounds, which I walked along
The Memorial itself consists of two raised stone built flowerbeds, with a small wooden fence at the front. They are separated by a couple of stone steps leading down to the next level of the pathway on towards the RNLI Shop and the Village.
On a small piece of slate, attached to the wall, is a hand written inscription with the following poignant words:-
" They shall grow not old as we who are left grow old, age shall not weary them nor the years condemn at the going down of the sun and in the morning WE WILL REMEMBER THEM".
There is also a tribute to crew of the Beaufighter Flight R2457. On the evening of the 12th April 1942 the aircraft was on Night Operational Patrol when it fell into the sea. It is assumed that it was shot down, roughly one mile south of Beer Head. The Crew, Squadron Leader, Roman Smok and Flight Officer, Mieczyslaw Swierz, lost their lives.
The flowerbeds were planted with Spring plants as well as a rosemary bush, which is a symbol of remembrance.
From here there are views of Beer Beach, the Sailing Club, the Village and Beer Head with it's limestone cliffs.
