点评:The old, historical part of Saint-Prex forms an almost equilateral triangle on a peninsula by the lake of Geneva. As in the old days the part now called 'Le Bourg' is entered through a gate with tower, referred to as the 'Tour de l'Horloge', when a big clock was installed. Special about it are the machicolations, thus holes, from which stones or hot water were dropped on the attackers. In the Middle Ages one would have approached the gate over a drawbridge, because a moat had been dug across the peninsula, turning the completely fortified 'Le Bourg' into an island.
Nothing is to be seen from the Middle Ages, when Saint-Prex had market rights, except for the mighty keep of the castle. When the city-state of Berne took over in 1536 (as in all the Vaud) the moat was filled up and the stones of the wall taken away to build the war harbor at nearby Morges.
It is a joy to wander through the rather quiet streets of Le Bourg, with at its center the main artery, called 'La Grande Rue', leading from the Tour de l'Horloge to the Pointe du Suchet, the tip of the peninsula, where the regular Lac Leman ships stop. The usually two storey high houses of Le Bourg have a traditional and still quite agricultural character. In the center is a fountain and to the east the 'château', which cannot be entered.
Saint-Prex's old quarter belongs to the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites and the community also received the prestigious Wakker Price for its maintenance of a a historically valuable townscape.
