I went to the Guildhall with the sole purpose of seeing the section devoted to Charles Dickens. This museum has so much more than I expected, and all of it interesting! Go along and have your fill then wander down to the castle wall for a look out to the River that features so heavily in the museum.
Fairly eclectic mix of local history (people, buildings, and objects), with a real focus on the river which naturally has dominated the development of the city and surrounding area. Great info question sheets here for the children. Lots of variety also can do in sections so you can do some in the mornign and then return later. lot of other things to see in the same area too so a great place for a day visit seeing many things.
The Guildhall museum is one of a number of excellent centres in the city which also boasts a museum dedicated to the Huguenots. It seems that the High Street has every sort of historic architecture. Do wander around because the venerable City has a wonderful range of fine houses and great open spaces.

It was only a quick visit but we did manage to take advantage of their Easter activity of making masks which the children enjoyed. Lots of things for the children to get involved with, button pushing and quizs... 更多
The free entry was definitely a bonus but such a well thought out and put together museum well worth a visit. Slightly quirky in areas but very interesting content over all starting with the history and nature of Rochester. The Dickens connection was also portrayed.
