We live within a block of the lagoon and walk to Westchester Lagoon just about daily. It is pretty easy to get to from downtown via bicycle or on foot via the Coastal Trail; it is about 30 minutes from downtown on foot.

Westchester Lagoon is a good place to go ice skating in the Winter. A fairly large area is usually kept clear of snow for skating. There are also trails nearby (Westchester Creek Trail and Tony Knolls Costal Trail) for hiking or cross-country skiing.
