Appears homeless shelter nearby. Local told us to be careful, vehicles get stolen regularly here. We didn't stay long as we felt a bit uncomfortable.
If you are looking for good snorkelling, drive to the very end of the runway where you will find a small sandy cove. We've been to this long beach a few times while in Kona, because it's close. It has a lovely botanical garden adjacent to it as well. Just on the edge of main Kona town is the Old Airport recreation area... this place is very popular with the locals, who host parties, family outings, music performances, etc here along the shoreline or in the grassy section opposite of the broad paved "runway"... keikis & adults alike enjoy this multiple purpose park, which is also an excellent spot... 更多
We were looking for a quiet place with protected beach area for the grandkids. This worked even though the sandy shoreline had only a few places to safely walk in to the water. With the right tide there are numerous tide pools to explore. We had fun checking things out as the tide came in.
My last day in Hawaii I thought I'd try this spot for snorkelling after being at many other great places around the island. It was one of my favorite spots. I read that charters drop people off in the water in Pawai Bay, so I drove to the end of the old runway and walked towards the small beach area.... 更多
