Park offers a couple different hikes. The best, IMO, is the 4 mile hike through the Kilauea Iki crater. It is a very unique landscape and takes only a couple hours - can be a bit strenuous for people not used to walking.
This is one of the things you flew 5,000 miles for-- learning of the history of our 50th state. No other island has the early history like here. Go with time to hear the stories and understand the people who make up the Hawaiians.
