This was a wonderful museum dedicated to Ellison Onizuka, a Big Island native. There were many interesting space artifacts in the museum along with fun things for young children to do. Unfortunately it has closed and no date has been posted to reopen.
Government closed it down. A tribute to the young Hawaiian who died in the Challenger explosion. Was at the Airport between United and Hawaiian. People wanted it to move to a new venue, but I haven't heard anything.
We are space buffs so naturally, we thought we'd go look for it. Our Navigation system in our Rental vehicle even had the route to get there (aka: Kailua-Kona Airport).

This was a touching tribute to Ellison Onizuka, Astronaut from Hawaii. Brief and educational. If you arrive early for a flight, it is definitely worth it. If you have kids, an educational trip for them.
