We found this memorial accidentally while walking the Freedom Trail. It's definitely something that is worth checking out. Take 10 minutes, read the plaques that are part of the memorial and learn some interesting history. The famine is directly tied to Boston because many of the people who left Ireland, ended up settling down in Boston. This was definitely a... 更多
Found this as we were walking the freedom trail . The connection between Ireland and Boston is obviously very strong and this is an excellent bronze memorial to commemorate that .. The famine was a terrible thing that blighted the nation and sent so many if it's people to foreign shores . The memorial is the thing to make you... 更多
This very touching memorial makes one think about tougher times and the difficulties in getting adjusted to the US. They state there that Irish could not apply to jobs when they were new to the country. Hopefully their descendants don’t treat new comers as their ancestrals were treated. Anyway, it is forbidden to eat or smoke inside the little area,... 更多
This 2 statue memorial set doesn't get the press it deserves. It's got a great story and we really enjoyed the statues and message. You should check this one out.
There was a time when agriculture failed for the Irish, as it did for the Syrians recently. Study about it before visiting the Boston Irish Famine Memorial on Washington Street. Oh, there are bagel places nearby, where you can get a quick, hot, satisfying snack on a budget.
Historic and informative, a small memorial park located just on the Washington Street shopping district. Stop here for a minute or so, read up, find out about the great potato famine, and what it meant for the United States in terms of bringing Irish here to these shores full of hope and desire.
As others have said, this is a small sight but it's the emotional impact that will stay with you! Seeing the inequality of emigrants to the US so beautifully and heartbreakingly depicted makes for a great education and conversation topic, especially for older kids. This memorial is easy to get to, has lovely shops around and is close to other... 更多
This is a very interesting memorial located on The Freedom Trail. The park is small and located in a shopping area and it has free wifi. My only problem was the amount of degenerate looking people hanging around. It definitely made for some uneasiness in the area.
