This was our first stop in a visit to a series of plantations along the banks of the Charles River, about mid-way between Richmond and Williamsburg, VA. It's a good entry point, being the oldest plantation in Virginia, and also the only one that is still inhabited by the same family - the 11th and 12th generations live there now..... 更多

We were taking the battlefield tour and stopped in at the Shirkey Plantation. We were so glad we did. It is a beautifully preserved house with a rich history. The grounds and house were very interesting and the tour guide was interesting and informative. While adults will get the most out of the tour, our tour group included two children... 更多

Located on the James River, this is a charming and interesting plantation to visit. We learned a lot about the family, through the generations. Robert E. Lee was a family member, and visited often, along with his friend, George Washington. There are numerous outbuildings to tour, and you can walk down to the river. The gift shop has some beautiful,... 更多

The plantation house was very impressive as you walked up the path to the plantation grounds. We toured the outbuildings first which is a self guided tour. The plantation is located on the James River and you can see the river from the back of the home. The tour guide was very informative and interesting. He was a pleasure to... 更多

It was pouring rain the day we visited here but we persevered. This plantation is still inhabited by one of the original families. The property is 8,000 acres which was amazing to me. The plantation is located on a beautiful spot by the river. I was a little disappointed in the house tour. There are only 4 rooms to visit>... 更多

We went here on a recommendation and we really enjoyed it. Our tour guide was fabulous and did a great job of bringing the plantation to life. I wish I knew her name. The history of this house and the people that visited here back in the 1700 & 1800's was remarkable. Beautiful place

Having recently moved to Virginia from California, it was about time to visit the Shirley Plantation. It is the country's oldest working farm owned by eleven successive generations of the same family and very impressive to tour the first floor parlor, living room, dining room and first bedroom. The upper two stories are occupied by the current family and off... 更多

The property and the tour were quite impressive. Who knew son much history could be encompassed in one property. This is an easy must-see.

This plantation is kept up very well. Cotton fields surround it so we got to see cotton harvested and baled. The first floor was very interesting. The upper floors are still occupied by the family so are closed to visitors. We spent about 2-3 hours there so the admission price was well worth it. The outbuildings like the stable, ice... 更多

Enjoyed touring the grounds and the planation. The tour guide was excellent and the house was beautiful. Was disappointed that we were only allowed to see the first floor, but do understand that the owners live on the upper floors. Would recommend this tour to anyone interested in history. This has one has some fascinating stories.
