Small SNT property. Didn't know much about Hugh Miller so found it quite interesting. The "garden" was a bit of a let down - a few strides and that's it. Good to while away an hour or so.
Easy parking just outside, found it ok. First we walked around the museum part, then round the thatched cottage next door. Also wee gift shop. Hugh Miller seemed to be a Fascinating individual. Lots of fossils to see, lots of info about his life and loves. Need to watch the doorways as they're very low in the thatched cottage. The tiny... 更多
Didn't know about Hugh Miller or history of Cromarty before but this visit whetted the appetite to spen,d more time here. Very pleasant and helpful ladies in charge.
The small cottage where Hugh Miller was born and lived for most of his life. The house next door has been turned into a museum of his achievements both as an author and geologist. It also has a fine collection of rocks and fossils collected by Hugh in his life time of being a jobbing stonemason, author, and one of... 更多
Hugh Miller was an amazing man, a truly Renaissance man. This museum examines his work in geology and paleontology. With lots of displays and things you can touch. A short, tragic life of a genius. A man who was ahead of his time.
To be honest we had never heard of Hugh Miller when we spotted this place so it was quite an eye opener when we discovered so much about this man and his importance in the world of geology. His personal life was also fascinating and we spent a good hour or so extending our knowledge of this man and what... 更多
After reading a few articles about Hugh Miller I felt the presentation of the museum and cottage to be uninspiring. The so called Hugh Millers garden was in fact a modern representation of what might have been there. Overall very average for SNT, Go to East Church instead.
Very interesting duo of houses adjacent to each other, one Hugh Miller's birth place presented as it might have looked in his day with a very good audio guide. The other is his family home, now a museum with lots of interesting information well presented and a beautiful garden.
