Smoo Cave sits on the North Cost 500, is a very simple walk down a fairly steep staircase for the less mobile but an unpretentious and well maintained free attraction. There is a small car park with clean and well serviced toilets.
Visited towards the end of March. The boat trip was unavailable and the place was also deserted which made it a better experience. We were able to hear the noise of the thunderous waterfall in the inner cave. The spray from the waterfall will soak you if you so wish. It's was dark inside and could not see the waterfall... 更多
Smoo cave is definitely a must see on a visit to Durness. It is a steep walk down from the car park to the cave at sea level, so if you have walking problems perhaps think about the walk back up again. However the cave is very easily accessible and very dramatic. You can walk to a viewing platform to... 更多
A planned stopping off point on the NC500 and it didn't disappoint! It was a glorious day so we got into all 3 caves, the last via a dinghy with the help of a rather eccentric but educational chap, who told us all about the cave's origins & excavation. The waterfall was fab & the whole experience great fun! Well... 更多
We visited the Smoo Caves during our stay in Durness, while doing the Scotland North Coast 500 route by motorbike. Unfortunately due to the heavy rain fall the cave was very full and there was no way the boat ride into the inner chambers, which we are assured are worth seeing, was going to happen. Fascinating cave and the climb... 更多
My partner and I visited Smoo cave on our NC 500 adventure . It's down a steep incline but it has got good hand rails to assist you down to the bottom . It's an interesting visit and a must see but no good for people with mobility problems . For £5 you can take a boat ride further into... 更多
This is a must if visiting Durness! The caves are impressive and the stories even more so. We took a boat/ dinghy ride to the inner cave and were told amazing stories by our guide. He has even found another cave that he was digging out! Very knowledgable guide. I would highly recommend a visit!
We chances on the Smoo Caves not knowing that for £5 you can take a tour inside with local geologists. If you get a chance DO! It was amazing and really interesting. Really pleased we went!
I had never heard of this place but apparently biggest cave in Europe?? Not far to walk from roadside with steps one way and no steps but obviously a lot longer the other way. The nose from the waterfall was something else but there had been a lot of rain. I read there are 'tours' at £5 but not sure... 更多
