A very nice walking tour. Great knowledge and nice speed to the tour. Highly recommend! It covered so many things that we would never have learned on our own......or in history books for that matter!
We took Tommy's 1.5 hour walking tour on recommendations from friends. It was the most informative explanation of Charleston's history as told by a long time local. The total distance may have been only a bit over a mile, but frequent stops made it an easy walk. Tommy had a great southern perspective that makes you understand the hard feelings... 更多
I would not recommend this tour. Tommy's presentation of a southern slave culture in which he painted a deceptive image of slavery that failed to depict the true suffering of human beings to a cruel and reprehensible treatment. I felt slimed! I took this tour 6 months ago and it haunts me still. I wish I didn't have the memory.
This is not your normal tour pointing out sites that may be of historical interest. What you will come to understand is that many of the buildings you see were built in the 1700s. Tommy will help peel back the many layers of history that helped create the Charleston you experience today. You will question things you thought about not... 更多
My husband and I took Tommy's tour along with my mother and aunt. There were 18 people total in our group. The tour lasted approximately 1:45. I would estimate we walked about a mile in total. Tommy is a walking encyclopedia of the history and evolution of the city of Charleston. He delivers facts and figures peppered with personal experiences.... 更多
Tommy is incredible. You cannot stump him with a history lesson related to Charleston. He is passionate about the truth of what happened verses what he calls "the winners lies." It is eye opening and challenging in a really good way. Charleston came alive with Tommy. I highly recommend spending time with him to get your arms around all that... 更多
The history of Charleston as is the history of the whole United States is complicated and brutal, especially with regard to slavery. Unfortunately, this tour did not deal with that complexity or brutality During this tour, our guide mentioned many different white individuals: John C. Calhoun, John Rutledge, Edward Rutledge and several more recent Mayors. He did not reference a... 更多
We took Tommy Dew's walking tour and were thoroughly absorbed by his knowledge and enthusiasm. We walked, observed and learned so much of the history of this fascinating town all delivered by Tommy with great style. A really personal experience!!
Tommy Dew gave an excellent walking tour and interesting history lesson filled with great stories. This is the perfect tour to take to get familiar with Charleston, or, if you have been there before, it's great for gaining more insight into this amazing town from someone who really understands Charleston!
This tour emphasizes the history of Charleston through the centuries rather than focusing on the architecture and buildings. Tommy is very knowledgeable about more history than just that of Charleston. He ties the city history in with that of the U.S. As a whole. His presentation is friendly and very interesting. No dry reciting of historical facts here! Our tour... 更多
