This is a lovely public beach with great waves and the ability to take long walks to the west passing lovely Watch Hill homes. The one considerable draw back is the absence of free parking. The most unspoiled beach in Rhode Island. Beware of the steep drop-off when getting into the ocean, and the very real possibility of not being able to get a parking spot during the summer. If you have 4wd, get an off-road pass and drive down the sand road to your own private piece of sand.
Unfortunately, we were there on a VERY windy day, but found it interesting how the lifeguards had dug trenches to protect themselves. We walked down the beach, but came back via the dirt road... and found lots of interesting flora to look at, including beach plums ready for the picking!
Very nice beach but parking is expensive for out of state visitors. Also, parking tends to fill up so you need to get there early.
Visited East Beach for the first time yesterday and was extremely surprised how beautiful the beach was. The water was an aqua color similar to the Caribbean and the waves were big and strong. The large expanse of sandy beach here means you are very unlikely to be crowded. The smallish parking area keeps the crowds down but also means you need to get there early in the morning!
