This sprawling park is just excellent, but what would one expect of the Oregon Coast. Beautiful scenery, numerous hiking opportunities through the rain forest, secluded beaches .... what's not to love?!
Over the coarse of the park the are several stops with views and short hikes to lookout points or down to the coast. The coastal views are awesome. Also there are plenty of picnic and restroom options. You could easily spend a day exploring the various options. We stayed in Brookings which was convenient.
Samuel H. Boardman is more a series of stops along the coast all in the same State Park. Fortunately, I researched ahead of time, to know to stop at all of the places in the 12 mile long area on the PCH. Gorgeous Beach... no fee... extremely clean and pristine. Abundant wildlife... Picnic tables... well tended bathrooms... and the beach is ACCESSIBLE... with a ramp running all the way down to it. There are some great hikes along the Coastal Trail in this park, some of them will take your breath away. Short walks or longer ones, there are some of both here. Bring your camera, binoculars and some lunch, spend a day -- great views and interesting migratory birds.
