Admission is free, donations accepted. 1st floor Gallery had a really nice display of local Confederate history. Sherman was Headquartered in Smithfield as the war ended. The reference library on the third floor is very extensive if you are looking for relatives that lived in Johnston County.

I stopped in the Heritage Center following my grandmother's passing a few years ago, and the person who assisted me was amazing. She was able to get information on my family tracing back to 1823...what an amazing find!! The exhibit on the first floor is small.The real asset is on the 3rd floor where county records and other genealogical resources can be found. This is a great collection. The staff are extremely knowledgeable. They are the heart of the center.
This local museum, although small and free, has several interesting exhibits. It also houses an extensive local genealogy library upstairs. The staff is friendly and helpful.
If you are looking for information about your ancestors or family genealogy, this is a one-of-a-kind resource not found anywhere else in Eastern North Carolina.
