Since the Palm Plantations have removed 70% of the forest on Bugala Island, the wildlife that existed there has depleeted greatly; few monkeys, many less birds and almost no parrots. A few years ago, there was a most beautiful Rainforest that covered the island completely, with amazing canopies along the roads. Today these are gone and only a few patches...
Amazing experience in a beautiful place! Buggala Island is a really nice place and I had the luck to enjoy a fantastic boda-tour with the Ssese Islands Tour Guides Association that I strongly reccomend! Abraham, my guide, was very knowledgeable and kind and he drove me around the island!
Lots of amazing birds and lovely views. Very tranquil island.
The quad bike hire was a shambles, as we booked for 4 and there was only 1 when we arrived. But we hired bodas and rode around the island ourselves.
We travelled with our friend and found the island to be very quite and peaceful. There are many lodges around , specially at the fairy docking area. Most of them are bacis but good and comfortable. Visiting the island by foot or driving a boda boda around the place is fun. Small town where u can buy the basic items...
