My husband and I enjoyed Cattus Island very much recently. The trails are well maintained and not too difficult. The new nature center is fantastic. My favorite aspect of this parks the nature center- although geared for youngsters to understand the eco systems , adults can learn and enjoy, too. A naturalist is on duty and very helpful and informative. Many special programs which require pre-registration. This is also a great place to hike (bring insect repellent).
I love this park, but I'm limited to hiking off the beaten path in the winter only, due to the tick problem. I have come back infested multiple times, but the trails are great otherwise. And if you stay on the main road it's not a problem any time of year.
Fantastic interactive visitor center that has just reopened. Lots to keep our boys entertained then we also cycled the main path to the sandy beach. A really great place and we will be back to explore much more - looking forward to seeing the butterfly garden grow and also watching the ospreys catching fish!
The trails are clearly marked. You can go off into the woods easily. Great view of the bay. Proximity to town makes it an easy drive. Dog friendly - what more do you need?
