Nestled in a valley between Mt. Assurance and Mascoma Lake, in Enfield, New Hampshire, the Enfield Shaker site has been cherished for over 200 years. At its peak in the mid 19th century, the community was home to three "Families" of Shakers. They practiced equality of the sexes and races, celibacy, pacifism and communal ownership of property. Shakers farmed over 3,000 acres of land, educated children in model schools and worshiped in the "Shaker Way." Today, their story is preserved by the Enfield Shaker Museum. • Tour the Great Stone Dwelling, the largest Shaker dwelling house ever constructed and home to the Museum. • Discover a world of faith and harmony through the Museum's collection of Shaker furniture, tools, clothing, photographs and agricultural implements. • Explore the Museum's herb and flower gardens, fields and hills. • Enjoy exhibits, special programs, concerts, guided tours and craft demonstrations. • Hike to the Shaker Feast Ground for a spectacular vista of the Shaker Village nestled along Mascoma Lake. • Shop at the Gift Shop, filled with Shaker-inspired reproductions, books, local crafts and farm products, as well as products from the Museum's renowned herb garden.

Recently attended a wedding here, and it's beautiful. The staff were very friendly & helpful when making accommodations. Great fields and views for a wedding or reception.

Can rent a room and tour the area from there. No food is served, but places are close by. Some people schedule to get married in the historic chapel and have their receptions in the historic shaker dining room.

A great tour with a very personable and knowledgeable tour guide. The Great Stone Building is worth the time to take the formal tour. An interesting walk through history of the Shakers and the local area.

I spent a pleasant week staying in one of the 4th floor single rooms, while attending a retreat at a nearby center. The Shaker Museum is a unique facility, providing the opportunity to both visit and sleep in an historical building/museum that is well preserved and steeped in the Shaker culture. The bedrooms are comfortable and large with simple, Shaker... 更多

This was a nice overview of the history of the shakers that lived in this area. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave a great tour of the main building. We also got to talk to two of the people that were actively working on the restoration of one of the other buildings on the property. It was neat... 更多

Despite being a smaller Shaker museum, the grandeur of the building makes up for that. We stayed overnight in the dormitory rooms upstairs which albeit spartan, it's a superb experience to have.

A very nice volunteer took us on a 30 minute tour of the large shaker dwelling. We bought several things at the giftshop that was quite cute. A very historic place and loads to see. Wish we had more time on a rainy day to look around.

The Shakers are all but gone, but the guides bring the experience to life. It's sad to see that most of the structures are sold off, the land around it built up as McMansions and the last three Shaker women left are in Maine. It makes one think. Definitely worth the trip.

We had a very nice guide who had lots of little details to add to the regular tour. he was also very receptive to questions. the museum store is also lovely. The place was immaculate and if it had been better weather i would have explored the adjacent gardens.
