Our second time was not nearly as enjoyable. We saw lots of prairie dogs. However, we drove and drove and never saw one hint of a buffalo. There are NO signs so, at one point, I think we actually drove out of the park but...更多

We decided to make a quick visit before leaving Valentine. My daughter (10 years old) loved the prairie dogs. We never could find any buffalo. The hike to Fort Falls was nice. The path was shady and cool even though it was a warm day.
We took a drive to the scenic overlook first. This provided us with the overview to see just how big this refuge really is. Bison and elk proved to be elusive, we were able to have fun viewing birds and prairie dogs. There is also...更多

This wildlife refuge is small but nice. We saw MANY prairie dogs and some bison but no elk (unfortunately). Maybe it's just that time of year. What we did find was a great hiking path to the Fort Falls then on down to the river....更多
We saw a few prairie dogs and a really pretty waterfall. The buffalo were moved to their winter pasture and the elk were hiding. The ranger was very helpful and he directed us to Smith Falls State Park which had a great water falls.
