I viewed the river from a friend's house, which is on part of his property. Depending on season and rainfall, you can kayak or canoe along the river. It was a beautiful setting for a baptism of a friend's newborn.
I've been over to the river numerous times and always have a great time. Since it was October I didn't go swimming or kayaking but just walked along the river lost in thought. The water level was the lowest I've ever seen it, but it's still a great place to visit in any season
Diddo, what more can I say. It runs from way inland (topsfield, reading...etc? Go to Foot's canou rental after the drought (9/16). Or for bigger boats and ocean, Try Ipswich town warf---off season or weekends.
Visited the Ipswich river today just below Foots Dam and was horrified as I could walk across the river without getting wet - NO WATER
Know that it has been a dry summer, but was astonished at what I saw

We took our 11-year old son and 7 of his friends kayaking and camping with Foote Bros. and it was a fantastic trip! Two hours in kayaks on the slow-moving Ipswich River, and we arrived on "our" island for the night. It was beautiful--simple, wooded, fire-pit, surrounded by nature. Two hours again in the kayak to return to Foote Bros....
