We were walking along the water and saw the light house. In order to go in we had to enter the museum. We didn't expect anything much but found it to be interesting with interactive exhibits that are intertwined with the real life of area watermen as they are called here. Recommended.
A excellent tribute to watermen and the environment they work in. The folks that work there are outstanding and the displays are deeply informational. One cannot visit Tilghman Island without a stop here because one needs to understand history and what it means to those that lived it.
Since we stayed on Tilghman just a few blocks away from the museum, it was easy to stop by. I ended up getting a personal tour from one of the docents. It was a great way to learn more about the history of the area and appreciate it more.
So much Tilghman history packed into this little museum! Our guide had a wealth of information about Tilghman, the watermen who worked these waters and the house itself. Worth the visit I found it very interesting .
Several years ago, a local resident saw one of Tilghman's unique W-houses in danger of destruction by neglect, WIth her persistence and the assistance of the watermen and other residents of the island, she and other volunteers created and are continuing to build an excellent small museum on the life and history of the island. A visit us highly recommended.
They had a lot of detail in the exhibits. Very interesting place to visit. Love the oyster house exhibit.
The Tilghman Watermen's Museum is located in one of the very few, if only one left, "W" houses, which were built many years ago to take advantage of the cool winds during hot summers. The museum is small and does not take long to go through, but shows very interesting history of Tilghman Island and of the boat building and... 更多
Museum open specific days and times. Worth the visit for historical information, artifacts and exhibits of the heritage and culture of the island community. Well versed locals as guides and while there isn't an entrance fee, donations are accepted and appreciated.
...but this place was quite charming. An interesting and personal look at what life was like over the years in a small fishing village. Through the art and old photos, senior year books and stories of the docent, this took me back in time to a simpler existence. Ahh.....sweet. And the "W" architecture of this building and several others on... 更多
