This was probably the highlight of our visit to Kansas. It did require some travel on a dirt road to get there, but it was totally worth it. Mt. Sunflower is on private property, but the owners have been gracious enough to allow visitors to visit the highest point in Kansas (4,039 ft). They have some rules and regulations posted,... 更多
After about 25 miles of driving on dirt and gravel roads, taking a multitude of turns and wondering if my GPS and directions had let me down, I finally arrived at Mount Sunflower. This is the highest point in the state of Kansas and is not far from the border with Colorado. It's not really a Mountain, more of a... 更多
Mount Sunflower is about conquest and experiencing the moment. It may not seem like much, and may not be for tourist from out-of-state nor out-of-country, but for a Kansan, it is a must see. It is more of a cultural site. One must envision the plight, struggles, and wonders of true freedom of the pioneers as they tried to settle... 更多
No, this isn't an amazing attraction, it's not even a hill, let alone a mountain, but it is a fun stop if you're in the area. There is a beautiful view of the prairie, a little library and a mailbox full of travel supplies. Watch for pronghorn on your drive in. The road is gravel, but it's in good condition,... 更多
This is a fun place to stop --- just to say you have been to the highest point in Kansas! The road is all gravel so I drove slow. It was easy to find with maps. Kansas is pretty flat so don't expect a mountain!! It is on private property but they allow guests. At the top is also a... 更多
Mount sunflower actually has a pretty good view from the top! I was rather surprised but if you're driving by this is a fun quirky stop and it's really great to see the tallest point in Kansas even if it's one step away from Colorado.
The highest point in Kansas is in the middle of nowhere, which is a good reason to love it! This is a very unique place to visit, and they even have a tiny library there.
This is a very remote part of Kansas. it is worth checking off the list if you are a high pointer. Gives a great perspective of the plains around you, even though it truly is only a mild incline from the rest o the terrain. There is no hike here, just a parking lot. Bring a lunch!
Son enjoyed driving on unpaved road to the "top"of Mount Sunflower. The highest point is marked by a little garden of sunflowers, a metal sunflower and a sign. There is also a plaque dedicating the site to the parents of the family who put it there. This is now also home to a "Little Library", where you can borrow and/or... 更多
A very nice photo op with a magnificent vista. A very easy detour onto US-40 off I-70 for travelers en route to or from in Colorado will take you right by this quirky roadside spot.
