We almost missed this little gem of a museum, make sure you don't. They have static art and revolving. We were there when they had some Andy Warhol pieces! I found a "new" artist I loved John Cox! Wow! His paintings look 3D with brilliant colors! Anyways, take a 15-25 minutes to see this art museum...Loved it!
I had a few hours to spend downtown, and chose to go to the Swope. It was well run, (free!-donation requested) and had a wide variety in their collection. I wish I would have had more time to spend here, and will definitely come back! There is an excellent exhibition there now, by an artist by the last name of... 更多
We stumbled upon this museum while walking around downtown. There were some very interesting pieces, particularly from the local artists. The best, however, was a visiting show from another local animation artist. His material was like nothing I'd ever seen.
When my granddaughter is visiting we always check out the Swope. She is 7 yrs old and loves the various activities they offer. They have 2nd Saturday for kids (and adults) where they will teach you different art techniques and provide you with the tools to make your own art. Their activities during Miracle on 7th event are the best!
The Swope is a small jewel of a museum in Terre Haute. It has an excellent collection of American Art. There are a couple of galleries that have rotating shows and a venue for educational activities. Definitely worth a visit if you're anywhere nearby.
I just attended the Mardi Gras Benefit for the Swope. This year it was held at the Ohio Building, and was a total success. The Swope is doing some remodeling now and be to see it when completed. I enjoy seeing local and regional art, as artist are so very interesting. I think an afternoon downtown for lunch and a... 更多
This museum, although not huge, has a very respectable collection of American Art. We were surprised and delighted to find works, very good works, by Grant Wood, Robert Motherwell, Edward Hopper, Reginald Marsh, and a particularly stunning portrait by George Luks. I was not familiar with the Hoosier Artists but now am eager to learn more about them. Well worth... 更多
A rare collection of art in a small Midwestern city and no admission fee. Brings the artistic colony of Terre Haute's past to life.
