This was a great place to stop on our bus tour of the Savannah, GA area. We were treated to a tram ride with a very personable and knowledgeable guide. We saw how the rich once vacationed on this lovely island. The "cottages" were huge and we all enjoyed the time spent here.
The entire area used to be an enclosed "club" for the wealthy. It was really a fully self supporting village. The grounds are meticulously maintained. Great for walking or biking. Just an enjoyable place to visit.
We rode our bikes to the historic district. It was nice but not amazing. Many of the shops had an unwelcoming vibe. The ice cream shop didn't have many flavors. The Commissary was the best shop. There wasn't much going on. Cute but not much to it.
I really hate to give this place less than 5 stars, but the Shop Employees/Owners were so UNFriendly! I guess you have to look like a million bucks to get friendly service. This is a beautiful backdrop to learn more history of the area. The museum, Rockefeller's home and the clubhouse are amazing! The beaches along the Atlantic are drop-dead gorgeous!!! We could have walked the beaches all day! This is a Very family and dog friendly island.
