This is also known as the Rookery. It is a small pond with a center island, We saw several kinds of herons, ibis, anhingas. ,cormorants, and the most adorable great blue heron hatching,,,little fuzz balls. I had forgotten my binoculars but the Audubon volunteer had a pair that she lent us. There was also one sleepy alligator but the birds did... 更多
The place is small. It is all about a man made lake with a little island that they call the "rookery" , that seems to be a favoured place for "mating". Great for photographers.
Frankly, it sounded like such a yawn. Lots of birds flying back to this tiny island in a slightly larger pond at sunset. But, we decided to take it in with some friends who were visiting. And our eyes were opened. Of all the things that we've taken out-of-town visitors to, this is almost always their favorite. It's just amazing... 更多
There are shelters set up and benches for the bird watchers to observe nesting water birds on the island rookery. Plenty of parking is available and many bring telescopes to observe the Ospreys, spoonbills, herons, egrets, and other water centric species. A great place to spend an afternoon if you like to observe birds at close range.
Small but amazing area of nesting birds just feet off-shore in the lake. It's an easy walk around this small lake and an amazing view of the nesting birds.
There is a pond in this small park which you can walk all the way around. There is also a covered pavilion. Bring your binoculars and cameras. The abundance of birds is stunning. Check out the back yards on the far side of the pond. Considering how developed the area it is just astounding that the birds choose to congregate... 更多
I had an expectation for a manicured park full of wildlife. That was not my experience (not so manicured) but I found the park quite interesting and was surprised at all the birds ! ! ! It's a great place to spend a half-hour relaxing and observing. Take some binoculars to get a better view. We'll go back for more... 更多
We stayed on Siesta Key for two weeks in April and spent some time this visit exploring Venice, about a 30 minute drive south of the Key, no farther than visiting some other sites in Sarasota. I read about the rookery, went there, and we were not disappointed. It's a very easy drive and walk around the very small lake.... 更多
Tucked in the middle of Venice is the Rookery. When we were there in February 2016 we saw many chicks in the nests being tended to buy mom and dad. Blue Herons and Egrets were the most common species. The pond surrounding the nesting island is home to turtles, fish and other species. A great to visit!
