Soda Lake is large (for this part of California) but shallow lake at the north end of the Carrizo Plain National Monument. You can walk to the lake edge which may be muddy. There is an overlook across the road.

Soda Lake doesn't have much water in it right now, but when it does it teams with tiny saltwater shrimp that birds eat. Soda Lake is in the Carrizo Plain National Monument, a big, dry, almost underpopulated area.

With a name like Soda Lake you know what is in store- salt. Anybody who reviewed this place in the negative was obviously expecting Disneyland. Its not, and thats what makes it awesome for tranauility seekers. It's nature - pure and raw and beautiful.
