I did an hour's walk in the late afternoon light. It was beautiful. Started at the beach below Mendocino and walked up the old logging road to the quarry and back. The light on the river was beautiful with hawks gliding. Easy walking up the graded road on the terrace above the river.
We took a pleasant, relaxing 45 minute stroll along the Big River path. The path is easy to navigate with views of the river and trees. Though hoping for some wildlife, in September we saw only a few birds. The walk makes for a fine pre-dinner or post-breakfast stretch.
A beautiful path to walk the changing scenery that is Big River. One minute the hot sun beats down then you you're cooled under that redwoods. If you have time, the folks riding canoes and kayaks looked like they had even better views. Either way, be sure to include the river in your Mendocino adventure.
We rode our bikes along the old haul road. Located at the end of the parking lot. It was relatively flat dirt/gravel road. It runs along the river. There are several pretty vistas fo the river along the way. We saw many wild flowers along the road. Talked to a local who said they had ridden it only the weekend...
