Great opportunity to introduce your children into the jurassic world. When walking along this beach, you WILL FIND FOSSILS (ammonites). you can even try and find some yourself. 2 TIPS: * Might be good to bring a small hammer. Easy to retrieve some specimen yourself (don't try to retrieve the big ones. Wont work and you'll spoil it for others)... 更多
Had a great morning with 4 and 7 year olds wandering the beach and searching for fossils - we all loved it. We parked in the car park behind the beach huts and headed out towards the point (away from the town). There are plenty of larger stones with visible fossils as you near the point but we also found... 更多
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED whatever your age: a fantastic place to find fossils- you have to go at low tide; walk out beyond the harbour and huts until you reach the flat wave cut platform; take drinks and a picnic; dress with layers; you can buy a hammer in one of the fossil shops in town for £6.50; nearest toilet is by... 更多
Walking up Monmouth beach is to find yourself in one of the worlds most abundant small fossil collecting areas in the UK. There are also some large fossils embedded in the rocks that you can see at low tide, Care must be taken not to get cut off as the tide comes in, as making headway in the rockier parts... 更多
This is the first time weve been to this beach, and fossil hunting too! We had a great sunny day, which was lucky, and had a lovely walk along the rocks in low tide, to the main beach. Great opportunities for rock pooling! There were lots of people on Monmouth beach fossil hunting- some very seriously, others seeing what they... 更多
This week we walked along the beach looking happily for fossils - I went fossil hunting 70 years ago on this coast and still love it. I did find two ammonites, which is always a thrill, even if not perfect specimens. But when I was a child I remember quite easily filling a small paper bag with perfect ammonites and... 更多
Monmouth beach runs to the west of Lyme Regis harbour area. It runs along the cliff and is a great way to see the jurassic coast in all its glory.
Love Monmouth beach, it's always interesting to walk along, Ammonite grave yard is amazing. If your into fossils this is a beach to check out. Can also lay on the sand and swim across the reefs
So many fossils on one beach it was amazing. About half a mile to the west of the beach is what is called fossil graveyard. The whole floor is covered in thousands of massive ammonites, truly amazing.
We scoured the beach for Fossils as this was on my bucket list...and luckily I found a few. Reportedly it is better to visit after a storm, (which is why we chose November for our visit) unfortunately the weekend was as sunny as any in the summer, but we still had a fantastic time!
