Marco Zero (literally means "ground zero") is at the heart of Recife Antigo, the old part of the city. There are many historic buildings here, however unfortunately not all of them have been maintained, and some are quite derelict. If you're visiting Recife, I definitely recommend a trip here. This is the zero mark for the state of Pernambuco from which all distances are measured in the state. It is a large brass plaque in the pavement of the square. Interesting if you are into geographic facts. The square is on the water with a great view of the sculpture park and some beautiful historic buildings adjacent.
