Many don't realize it but it was these two brothers, saints of early Christianity who, in order to spread the faith to the Slavs, had to create the alphabet that bears on the one brother's name, Cyrillic, in the middle of the 9th century.
The monument is by the boat docks and just a short walk from the ancient core...
So these brothers created the Cyrillic alphabet which is a pretty big deal. But the statue looks like one of the guys is being a nuisance and trying to grab what the other guy is reading :)
Its located right in the center of Ohrid, so you can't miss it.
These two men are so historically important not just to Ohrid but to the known world in their time. it is nice to see the monument honoring them. They created the Slavic alphabet used in many countries. It is a special landmark in the middle of town.
Interesting monument especially for people from the Czech lands and Slovakia as the two brothers brought the first literary Slavonic language and writing to the Great Moravian Empire in 863 - in the Czech Republic 5th July is a public holiday commemorating the coming of the two.
It is situated in a small park near the port and you may...
A statue is a statue. And Macedonians love abundance of them. Neither impressive one nor contributing to the climate of the place. It is who is represented on the monument that matters. Just walk by and take a look while exploting this nice town.
