I liked the hike better than the beach. The day before I went to Dois Rios and the sand was softer there and the view was a bit nicer. But still: it is a beach where you can lay down, work on your tan and chill out. If you don't like a long hike, go here instead of Dois Rios.
We stopped at this beach for a coconut and short stop on the way to lopes mendes beach. The beach is quiet and to counter other reviews - did have a more local vibe but in no way appeared 'creepy'. Not sure I would hike especially for this beach but it was a nice stop.

We did the trek to Lopes Mendes but this is the first beach you get to; we stayed for about an hour but continued to Lopes mendes as we were told it was one of the most beautiful on the island. Emmm this one is much more beautiful and sheltered; wouldve stayed here or Pouso beach longer.
