The Museum of Socialist Art (MSA) opened on September 19th 2011 as part of the structure of the National Museum of Bulgarian Art and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture.
The museum consists of a sculptural park (7,500 square metres), where 80 works of monumental sculpture are exhibited at present; and an exhibition hall (550 square metres), designed for works of easel art. There is also a video hall, where archival and documentary films related to the socialist era are projected. The souvenir shop offers authentic items, books and postcards as well as contemporary items.
The sculptural area will be supplemented and enriched, while the expositions in the interior part will be periodically updated. Thereby, it will be possible to show different perspectives and diverse curatorial interpretations of the Socialist period in Bulgarian fine arts.
