It was really tough to communicate as Noone understands English well enough and took us a good hour before we finally reached where we wanted to after stutters and false starts and almost giving up..turns out ..mellah is within one of the cryptic lanes within the pulsating and throbbing market and as we vend our way further through it ..we... 更多
One of the more interesting part in touring Fez. Wandered through the narrow alleys were Jews lived for many generations. Visited Ibn Danan synagogue dating from the 17th century, and one of many existed in the past. The moving part was to visit the well preserved Jewish cemetery were the famous Lala Sulika is buried (killed at a young age... 更多
The Mellah has everything- you can see the Jewish style buildings both before and after restoration. The spice market is amazing, and the cemetery interesting (especially if you have a guide with great stories and explanations).
We visited the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter. The 300 year old Synagogue is in the process of being restored. There is a Torah & Bema. The Jewish Cemetery is amazing. It is 600 years old. The view of the tombs & the surrounding skyline is a great site. This is near the Palace of Fes & the Seven Doors.... 更多
Having seen the Mellah and the synagoge, we can but appreciate the efforts made to preserve the Jewish history of Fes. The synagoge is well preserved, and the conservator is willing to give the needed information.
It is hard to find!! we found this guy call Abdulla with green eyes!! he showed all the neighborhood. It was like a 2 hours tour and it cost 12 us!! I will highly recommend that you look for him and everything is hard to find.
This was the first stop when we did a cultural tour in Fez. It was near the King's Palace. It shows how the Jewish people lived centuries ago.
We visited the mellah on our own after taking a taxi from Place R'cif for 15 dirhams. We walked in to neighborhood, walked a minute or two to the cemetery gate, paid ten dirhams to the cemetery guard (who we weren't exactly sure should have been paid, but we weren't interested in dithering), and explored the names. There were many... 更多
