I'm not an expert in abandoned synagogues, but as somebody who has seen a fair number, and having abandoned quite a few synagogues myself, I'm not entirely an amateur either.
This place is nice, and the mikvah underneath is cute. But there's very little information present, in any language. You walk around for a few minutes and think to yourself,...
Luckily this synagogue is been restored - like another one - the Slat Alfassiyine synagoge just a blocks away also hidden in the melah. A nice muslim lady was showing us around, proud to show her tolerance. What I found most striking is to see the local influence, the Arab inspired ornaments.
This historical building was renovated and is in a very good condition , and many groups include the visit here into their itinerary . Small Jewish community of Fes is located currently outside the walks some 5 miles away, but the history of the long Jewish heritage here comes alive. Don't miss the Mikva downstairs !

This is a significant piece of Moroccan Jewish history. The synagogue was a central part and focal point of the Jewish community. It is a beautifully restored building but for the mikvah in the basement under the synagogue.
