Outside of landing at the airport and picking up your rental car, you aren't going to spend much time in Lihue. It doesn't feel like you're on Kauai being in Lihue, but it is a place where you can drop by a Walmart, and pick up some bottled water, etc...because that stuff is going to cost you at the hotels.... 更多
Lihu'e is one of the prettiest of the Hawaiian islands. Beautiful waterfalls and canyon. Easy to get around by car. Definitely worth a visit.
This is not Kaua'i. It is the most developed and commercialized area on tge island. Home to numerous shopping areas, major port and airport. It is filled with many of the stores and fast food restaurants you have left behind on the mainland. To see the real Kaua'i you must get outside of Lihue.
Landing at the airport in Lihu'e makes us go "ahhhhh", because we are on our favorite island of Kauai. There are many places to stay, shop, and visit here and in the immediate vicinity. Lihue is the place everyone should visit, everywhere you go from there is as beautiful as you can find anywhere.
Stayed only 2 nights as a side trip after visit to Honolulu. Should stay here first when luggage is much lighter due to shopping. We hired a car from Australia and picked it up at the airport.
