Yes, it has interesting history. It's part of Augusta's history. Other reviewers have spoken about it, I'd say drive by. Maybe pop out of the car and take an odd pic... because why not! Especially if you have kids and want to tell them a story, which one to choose is up to you. I also take out of town... 更多
We actually passed this the first time we went by because we didn't really notice it. We turned around to look for it again, and we really didn't miss much. We wanted to see if anyone was touching it, but there was nobody there at all. Maybe if you had a historical guide it would be more interesting, but just... 更多
You really need to see this with a tour group or at least read the true history of this history item. What is usually told about this pillar is not correct. It was not a whipping post nor an place where people were sold. It was one pillar of many that supported the roof of a farmers market and it... 更多

The pillar is the only remaining piece of the Central Market which was located in the middle of Broad Street. Everything which was bought and sold in Augusta in the early... 更多
I TOUCHED IT, and I DIED. It also turned me into a newt, but I got better! I was taunting it on a windy Halloween night, and it started chasing me threw the streets of Augusta down to the river where it pushed me in and held me under! BEWARE OF THE ggggghost!
The stories surrounding this thing are awesome. The Weather Channel even has a show about it. But it is actually just a column on the street corner. Unless you believe all the stories?
The pillar is still there but there is no indication of what it is or its history. The area is very rundown with a liquor store located across the street. The row of buildings beside it are vacant and somewhat vandalized. It is a shame that the city has basically abandoned this historical artifact and local tourist attraction. There is... 更多
It's said if you touch it you will die! Well I touched it a few years ago and guess what? I will die but then again we all will. Nice bit of history and worth a walk to it if you're in downtown Augusta, GA.
