In decades past, the Chesapeake was noted for the huge flocks of waterfowl (geese, swans and ducks) that came every winter to escape the ice and snow of Canada. Thanks to improving water quality and terrific management programs, the huge flocks are starting to return....更多
During hunting season the refuge may close for the day so check first. The boardwalk was closed when we were there in mid October. Very disappointed. There are paved and gravel roads. We walked 1/2 mile thru the Wildlife Trail woods. There were butterflies all...更多
We visited in October 2016 and found that the boardwalk overlook trail out to the bay was closed. We were disappointed but the other trails more than made up for it. Gorgeous views of the Chester River and local wildlife. Do not use the bathroom...更多
Some of the areas are closed due to lack of funding and volunteers. Trash here and there as well. Nice office building with many displays. Seems less than inviting than when we were there 2 years ago. Plenty of wildlife around including eagles, red foxes...更多
We had a short trip here. What a tranquil place it is. Beautiful landscapes, wild birds including nesting Ospreys. Lovely area with butterflies
I came to this area to do some hiking, not see birds as a lot of others seem to do. Coming in the middle of September seemed like it would be a waste of time anyway, since I did not see a lot of animals....更多
Eastern Neck Refuge is a fantastic place. As would be expected, birding, especially waterfowl and raptors, is great. Although October is a bit early for the large migratory flocks, there was still much to be seen, including bald eagles, northern harriers and numerous ducks, geese,...更多
If you want to see a lot of animals, make sure you time your visit with the migratory pattern of the animal that you would like to see. I went at the end of September which just happened to be a time where there wasn't...更多
It's a long roundabout route to get there if you go from Baltimore, but definitely worth the trip for a nature lover. I chose a cold day to go and that was a problem, but the landscape is diverse with marshes and forests and water...更多
